- Essay on Importance of Education

Importance of Education Essay
Education is one of the key components for an individual’s success. It has the ability to shape one’s life in the right direction. Education is a process of imparting or acquiring knowledge, and developing the powers of reasoning and judgement. It prepares growing children intellectually for a life with more mature understanding and sensitivity to issues surrounding them. It improves not only the personal life of the people but also their community. Thus, one cannot neglect the significance of Education in life and society. Here, we have provided an essay on the Importance of Education. Students can use this essay to prepare for their English exam or as a speech to participate in the school competition.
Importance of Education
The importance of education in life is immense. It facilitates quality learning for people throughout their life. It inculcates knowledge, belief, skill, values and moral habits. It improves the way of living and raises the social and economic status of individuals. Education makes life better and more peaceful. It transforms the personality of individuals and makes them feel confident.
Well said by Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world”. To elaborate, it is the foundation of the society which brings economic wealth, social prosperity and political stability. It gives power to people to put their views and showcase their real potential. It strengthens democracy by providing citizens with the tools to participate in the governance process. It acts as an integrative force to foster social cohesion and national identity.
In India, education is a constitutional right of every citizen. So, people of any age group, religion, caste, creed and region are free to receive education. An educated person is respected everywhere and well-treated in society. As a kid, every child dreams of being a doctor, lawyer, engineer, actor, sportsperson, etc. These dreams can come true through education. So, investment in education gives the best return. Well-educated people have more opportunities to get a better job which makes them feel satisfied.
In schools, education is divided into different levels, i.e., preschool, primary, secondary and senior secondary. School education comprises traditional learning which provides students with theoretical knowledge. However, now various efforts are being made to establish inbuilt application-based learning by adding numerous experiments, practicals and extracurricular activities to the school curriculum. Students learn to read, write and represent their viewpoints in front of others. Also, in this era of digital Education, anyone can easily access information online at their fingertips. They can learn new skills and enhance their knowledge.
Steps Taken By Government To Promote Education
Education is evidently an important aspect that no government can ignore in order to ensure the equitable development of a nation. Unfortunately, some children still do not have access to education. The Government has thereby taken initiatives to improve education quality and made it accessible to everyone, especially the poor people.
The Government passed the Right to Education Act 2009 (RTE Act 2009) on 4 August 2009. This Act came into effect on 1 April 2010, following which education has become the fundamental right of every child in India. It provides free and compulsory elementary education to children of the age group of 6-14 years in a neighbourhood school within 1 km, up to Class 8 in India. On similar lines, there are other schemes launched by the government, such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan , Mid-Day Meal , Adult Education and Skill Development Scheme, National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme, National Program for Education of Girls at Elementary Education, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Scheme for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutions, Beti Bachao , Beti Padhao, etc.
For our country’s growth, we require a well-educated population equipped with the relevant knowledge, attitude and skills. This can be achieved by spreading awareness about the importance of Education in rural areas. There is a famous saying that “If we feed one person, we will eliminate his hunger for only one time. But, if we educate a person, we will change his entire life”. Henceforth he will become capable of earning a livelihood by himself.

27 Facts on the Importance of Education (Essay or Speech)

Are you in need of ideas for an importance of education essay?
Here is a list of 27 ideas that will get you started!
These ideas come from a variety of online sources and links have been provided in case you need to provide references in your essay .
This article lists ideas on the importance of education to a person’s life (Points 1 – 16) and to society (Points 17 – 27).
Importance of Education to a Person’s Life
1. education helps people out of poverty.
Poverty is linked to low education . Families that are poor are usually less educated than families that are rich. Plus, if you are born into a low educated poor family, chances are high that you too will end up low educated and poor.
One way poverty affects education is through the direct costs. Even when school is free, the costs of uniforms, travel, and so on can be very difficult for families to cover.
To escape the poverty trap cycle , people need to gain a higher education than their parents and find upwardly mobile employment (this means: jobs that help you get from the working class into the middle class).
Here’s some facts to back up this point.
A recent report found that people with a college education are statistically less likely to be in poverty. Of people over the age of 25, only 2% of college graduates were in poverty. That compares to 13% of high school graduates over 25.

2. Education helps People make More Money
Jobs that require a higher education are usually more highly paid than unskilled jobs. This is because the jobs are more difficult and require a more specialized skillset. If you get an education in a skill area where there is a shortage of available workers, your wages will increase.
To underscore this point, Brookings presented findings that show:
“An individual with a college degree is nearly nine times more likely to make over $100,000 than someone with only a high school diploma and 13 times more likely to make more than $200,000 per year.”
Today, jobs that are in demand, require a high education and pay quite well include:
- Software developer (USD $101,000)
- Health care administrator (USD $98,000)
- Medical Technologist (USD $51,000)
Source: CNBC .
3. Highly Educated People have a Better chance of Getting a Job
Jobs are not that easy to come by these days – even for people with degrees. But there’s statistically a higher chance of you getting a job if you have a higher education.
The 2017 report Education Pays: The Benefits of Higher Education for Individuals and Society found that people with higher education have lower rates of unemployment.
In 2015, younger people (ages 25 – 34) with bachelor’s degrees had an unemployment rate of 2.6%. High school graduates of the same age range had an unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.
That’s a huge difference that underscores the correlation between education and employability.

4. Highly Educated People are Statistically Healthier
Statistically, the higher your education, the healthier you are. This could potentially be due to a few factors including:
- Stable jobs with regular hours allow you to plan exercise;
- Cultural differences between working-class and middle-class people;
- More money to participate in recreational activities.
Whatever the reason, the facts stand for themselves. One of the major facts is this:
In 2014, 26% of high school graduates smoked cigarettes. In the same year, only 8% of college graduates smoked cigarettes.

5. Highly Educated People Volunteer More
Educated people tend to do better when it comes to volunteering. The reasons for this may be very similar to the reasons for being more fit. Reasons could include:
- Stable jobs with regular hours allow time to plan regular volunteering hours;
- Highly educated people are less likely to work two jobs;
- People who are well educated have more money to travel to and from their volunteering locations.
Again, it’s a good idea to back this claim up with some facts.
In 2015, 39% of college graduates reported that they volunteered that year. Among high school graduates, it was just 16% who reported that they volunteered.
6. Education helps People make Better Decisions
We have already established that people with a higher education have more job security and more money.
The flow-on effect of this is that they can make better decisions.
When you are more certain that you have money coming in every week, you’ll be able to plan our your budget more. You’ll also have the money to make decisions about living in safer neighborhoods with more public services.
Furthermore, higher education usually teaches critical thinking skills . This means people who’ve been trained in critical thinking may have an advantage when making tough decisions. They will have the education to know how to handle complex decision-making processes.
7. Education helps People make Long-Term Decisions
Not only will highly educated people have the skillset to make tough decisions, they will also have the money to make long-term decisions.
If you have a stable job with a high income each month, you’re more likely to get a loan for a home. You also have the freedom to start investing into your retirement funds.
As you can see, the correlation between high education and high incomes has huge flow-on effects for quality of life.
8. Education can increase Social Status
An education from a respected educational institution can open lots of doors for you.
Many students from around the world flock to nations like the United Kingdom, United States and Australia to get degrees from top-ranking education nations.
Similarly, if you make it to a higher-ranking school or university such as Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, Oxford or Princeton you’ll get a lot of social status just for having attended the university.
Even at compulsory school age there are elite institutions. For example, the private school named Eton College in the UK is known for producing no less than 19 British Prime Minsters .
When you get social status from going to a good school or university, we say you have institutional or cultural capital .
This degree from a well-respected university may get you that job interview you were looking for. But, it could also get you social status amongst family, friends and – yes – potential future partners!
9. Education makes People better Conversationalists
Have you ever had a conversation with a person and they were just really interesting? They seemed to know a lot of things and be able to talk to you about anything.
Well, that person is likely very well educated.
In fact, we have some words to describe people who are well-educated in a broad range of topics. You could call them:
- A renaissance man
- A renaissance woman
There is also a type of education designed to help you become a polymath. It’s called a Liberal Education and you get it by doing a Liberal Arts Degree from a university.
10. Education helps People get Access to Important Information
In the dark ages in Europe very few people had the ability to read.
This meant that knowledge held in books was only available to very few people.
When people don’t have access to knowledge, they’re in a very vulnerable situation. They can’t educate themselves on important information and have a harder time making decisions.
Nowadays, most people in the developed world can read. This huge advance in education levels has enabled any of us to go out there and access information.
In fact, you’re doing that right now! Aren’t you glad you can read?
Educated people also have the knowledge about how to access important information. We’re taught at school about encyclopaedias and libraries. At university we’re taught about scholarly sources and how to access them .
Combine the ability to read with the skills to access information and anyone can help educate themselves on anything. You just need a basic level of education to get started!
11. Education enables People to Critically Analyze ideas
At school, you’re not just being taught facts.
You’re also being taught how to think.
This ability to think involves some pretty advanced strategies like:
- Skepticism: The reluctance to believe something until you see the facts;
- Critical Thinking : the ability to look at something from multiple perspectives;
- Analytical Thinking : the ability to investigate something deeply to find answers.
With these fantastic skills, you can go a long way! You’re less likely to be tricked into believing something that’s not true. You’ll also be able to think things through and come to reasonable, rational conclusions.
12. Education can Help People (especially Women) become Independent and Powerful
Women’s education is a major focus of the United Nations.
This is because many women who are not educated are dependent on their families or husbands to make money.
When women become educated, they can become independent . They can work in better paid jobs, move into more powerful positions in workplaces, and earn an income that’s independent of their husbands.
In the long run, this will mean that women have an equal say in the development of our world.
Furthermore, women with jobs can contribute financially to their families which can help move the whole family out of poverty and give them a better standard of living.

13. Education reduces Unplanned Pregnancies and Sexual Diseases
Basic education on sex and relationships can dramatically reduce sexual diseases and unplanned pregnancies.
Here’s some facts:
The Borgen Project cites that completion of primary school will reduce a person’s chances of getting HIV. In fact, it reduces girls’ chances of contracting the illness 3-fold.
Educated people also have smaller families and they have them later in life. In Mali , women with a high school education have an average of 3 children. Women without a high school education have an average of 7 children.
14. Education helps us Realize our own Potential
Through education, we learn about what we like and don’t like. We learn all about things from science, math, languages and history.
After contemplating all of these different topics, we’ll be more capable of living our best life.
If you don’t get educated, you won’t open up your horizons and learn about the world. You may end up being stuck in an insular life without having experienced all the great things life has to offer.
You don’t need to go to school for this. Maybe being educated for you is just about reading books on a lot of different topics.
Either way, by educating yourself, you can realize your potential and live a more meaningful life.
15. Education can bring Enjoyment to People’s Lives
Unfortunately, it’s often overlooked that education can be pleasurable for its own sake.
I’ve talked all about how education can help people out of poverty, get them jobs, make them more powerful and less sick.
But it’s also important to remember that education can simply be enjoyable and therefore be important for helping you be happy.
Have you ever learned something really cool and just been glad you know that information now?
That’s what I mean by education being a fun activity on its own.
When people are learning just because they love learning, we say they are intrinsically motivated . This is the opposite to extrinsic motivation where people learn things so they can get a reward like a better job.
16. Education makes you more Tolerant
There is some evidence that highly educated people may be more tolerant than lowly educated people.
To take just one example, people from Latin America with a high school education are 45% more tolerant toward people with HIV than Latin Americans with only an elementary school education.
Similarly, Lorelle Espinosa argues that colleges are ideal locations for teaching tolerance. She argues:
The foundations of tolerance run deep in the college classroom, where students learn and confront new ideas, issues and experiences at times vastly different than their own.
This is, of course, if you have a good teacher who’ll teach you different people’s perspectives!

Importance of Education to Society
17. education prevents diseases in society.
Health education in classrooms can make an entire society healthier and live longer.
Health care education helps people avoid risky activities and behaviors, conduct basic first aid when someone is injured, and learn when they need to see a doctor.
The Population Reference Bureau argues that education of women on matters of health is especially important because they often set the standards for household behaviors like regularly washing your hands.
Educating children on health is also very important for the future health of a society.
That’s why Save the Children spends a lot of money on health education in developing countries. Here’s what they say the benefit of education is for children’s health:
Most importantly, through education, students learn how to adapt their daily habits to improve their health, nutrition, hygiene and prevent HIV and AIDS, gaining these important skills and behaviors for life.
18. Education helps a Country’s Economy Grow
When the population of a country is more educated, the whole country gets wealthier. This surely highlights the importance of education!
Here’s some facts that might be useful for you:
Hanushek and Wobmann (2010) looked at the evidence on the links between economic growth and education. They found that good quality education systems have a strong connection to long-term economic growth in a society.
Here’s their conclusion:
Economic growth is strongly affected by the skills of workers. What people know matters.
Hassan and Rafaz (2017) looked at economic growth in Pakastan between 1990 and 2016. They argue that:
[A] 1% increase in female education, female labour force participation, education expenditure and fertility rate causes 96% increase in GDP of Pakistan
Woah! Education of women appears to be a powerful way of increasing the wealth of entire societies.
19. Education can attract High Paying Jobs of the 21 st Century
You might have heard that manufacturing and factory jobs are becoming pretty rare in developed nations.
Because the high paying jobs of the future won’t be in unskilled labor. Those jobs are disappearing and going to poorer nations.
Instead, all the good jobs of the future will require a very high education level.
Often teachers like me talk about skills for the 21 st Century . These are skills like:
- Creative thinking ;
- Critical thinking;
- Communication;
- Collaboration;
- Digital literacy
If children today aren’t educated on these important skills, they’ll have trouble finding the best jobs. And if a whole society falls behind in education, those good jobs will move overseas to where the most highly educated workers can be found.
20. Education can Prevent Wars and Conflicts
History lessons can be very powerful for helping is prevent the mistakes of the past.
If you want to avoid the mistakes of history, you have to learn about how they were made. By educating people about the events leading up to World War 1 and 2, we might be able to teach people how to avoid the same mistakes again.
Similarly, if a society is well educated on the dangers and heartbreak of wars, those wars might be prevented.
This happened during the Vietnam War when students on college campuses began protesting the war . These students worked hard to teach people all over the United States about what was really happening in Vietnam.
War journalists were also instrumental in educating the public on the terrible effects of the war. Video footage, photos and news reports sent back to the United States helped educate the population and helped boost the anti-war efforts.
21. Education is good for Democracy
Most first world nations ensure children are taught democratic citizenship .
Teaching the values of democratic societies – like the fact that we should elect our leaders – helps to keep democracy going.
If we don’t teach about how good democracy is for our freedom and prosperity, we may sleepwalk into an evil dictatorship!
Democracy is about more than voting. It’s about learning the importance of treating each other respectfully, volunteering in our community, and respecting each other’s liberty.
I think Senator Michael Bennet sums this one up well when he says in his blog post :
With education, the common man would be able to select leaders wisely and fight back against the tyrannical instincts of those in power.
22. Education leads to Medical and Technological Breakthroughs
Before we became obsessed with the link between education and money, societies still invested heavily in public universities.
Because strong higher education systems can lead to technological and medical breakthroughs.
Here’s a few things that people invented while learning and researching at universities:
- The Seat Belt: Invented at Cornell University
- Gatorade: Unvented at the University of Florida
- Ultrasound: Developed at the University of Vienna
- CAT Scans: Developed at Georgetown University
- GPS: Developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Polio Vaccine: Developed at the University of Pittsburgh
23. Education can lead to Entrepreneurship
The online website Talk Business argues that entrepreneurs are always in need of more education. They argue:
…at their core [Entrepreneurs] are problem solvers and spend their time investigating potential solutions.
In order to solve problems, entrepreneurs enroll themselves in courses, read books, listen to podcasts and pay for mentors. In other words, they’re huge self-educators.
The article goes on to explain that entrepreneurs often don’t seek out a formal education from a school or university. Instead, they seek out answers to their questions from people who have already solved the problems.
So, education is good for business – but don’t narrow your definition of education. Education can come in all shapes and sizes.
24. Education may be the Solution to Global Problems like Climate Change
There’s two ways education can help us get out of the problem of climate change.
Firstly, educating people about sustainability can help us to reduce our ecological footprint on this world. If we recycle more, consume less goods, and ensure we’re cleaning up after ourselves, we can do a lot to help the environment.
Secondly, educating future environmental scientists is vital for finding the solutions to our current environmental problems.
Scientists of the future might find ways to dramatically reduce carbon emissions, reduce the temperature of the globe, or come up with better ways to produce energy.
In the race against time to solve the climate crisis, education may just be the thing that saves us from ourselves.
25. Education is important for Creating a Cohesive Society
Education helps us learn how to behave appropriately.
Emile Durkheim is a major theorist who came up with this concept.
According to Durkheim, schooling is all about ‘socialization’.
By this, he means we go to school to learn about more than maths and science. School has a hidden curriculum . The hidden curriculum is all the things we learn above and beyond our textbooks.
The hidden curriculum includes:
- Learning manners;
- Learning to get along with each other;
- Learning to respect other people’s privacy;
- Learning to follow the rules for the good of society;
- and many more things besides!
So, without schools teaching us how to get along, there may be many more conflicts in our communities.
26. Education passes on Cultural Values, Heritage and Information from one Generation to the Next
How did you learn about Christmas? How about the 4 th of July? How did you learn about Native Americans?
We learn a lot of these things from school.
So, education also teaches us about our culture and who we are.
This usually takes place in history classes where we learn about the history of our nations and our world.
But we also learn cultural values from the hidden curriculum (If you haven’t read point 25, I talk about the hidden curriculum there).
For example, in western culture it’s polite to look people in the eyes and shake their hands. We also respect our elders. These are cultural values that are taught to us in everyday conversations at school.
27. Education can lead to Gender Equality
There is a lot of evidence that says education is the key to creating a more equal world.
For example, UNESCO states that women tend to be less educated than men in developing countries. However, women overall show more concern for the environment.
Why is this a problem?
Because at the moment women aren’t empowered enough (through education) to create change. More educated women means more power for women to effect change.
Here’s an example:
“Women constitute almost two-thirds of the 758 million adults who are unable to read or write a sentence – a vast pool of people we are not empowering to help us fight environmental shifts” ( UNESCO )
There is also the problem of gender stereotypes, which can be challenged through education . If we educate more people about justice and equality, gender stereotypes will diminish which will be good for gender equality.

Another way education impacts us is through societal expectations; people who have more education tend to make more money than those who don’t go to college which means they’re expected to live different lifestyles and act differently than those who haven’t gone to college because it would be seen as inappropriate behavior for someone with their level of education.
Why you should care about your children’s education
It’s never too early to start thinking about the type of education your children will receive. The base of their future is formed in these years and it can be difficult for them to recover later on. As a parent, you should always consider what type of school would best suit your child.
For parents, there is nothing more important than the education of their children. No matter what industry you work in or how much money you make, your child’s future is a direct reflection of you. It’s not always easy to know where and when to start with this effort though.
Most parents want what is best for their children, which includes a good education. But have you ever considered how your child’s success will impact your own? The more educated your child becomes, the greater likelihood they’ll be able to maintain a high-paying job that can support both themselves and you. Consider this fact when making decisions about whether or not to withdraw them from school because of illness or other issues. You may also want to encourage them to work hard on their studies and earn a diploma in order to gain the skills necessary for finding employment after graduation.
Final Words
The truth is, besides the education of your child, your own personal education is just as important as any other type of schooling you could pursue-maybe even more so. There are many benefits to going through your own self-education process–both personal and professional ones.

What is a good first sentence for an essay?
How to Write a Great Opening Sentence – Everyone knows some of the great opening lines from fiction novels:
“Call me Ishmael.” – Herman Melville, Moby Dick “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” – Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina “Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.” – Gabriel García Márquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.” – Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
The common thread between these opening lines is that they create a vivid first impression. They make the reader want to know more. They’re punchy, intriguing, and unexpected. The first words of a nonfiction book work the same way. You want to create an emotional connection with the reader so they can’t put the book down.
In some ways, nonfiction Authors even have an advantage. They’re writing about themselves and their knowledge while having a conversation with the reader. They can establish the connection even more immediately because they don’t have to set a fictional scene. They can jump right in and use the first person “I.” Let’s go back to The Scribe Method ‘s opening paragraph: I’ve never met you, but I’m gonna read your mind.
Not literally, of course. I’m going to make an educated guess about why you want to write a book. When you read that, at a minimum, you’re going to think, “All right, dude, let’s see if you really know why I want to write a book,” And you’re going to keep reading.
- At best, you’re going to think, “Wow.
- He’s inside my head right now.” And you’re going to keep reading.
- In both cases, I’ve managed to create an emotional connection with the reader.
- Even if that emotion is skepticism, it’s enough to hook someone.
- So where do you start when you’re writing your book? How do you form that connection? The best hooks usually start in the middle of the highest intensity.
In other words, lead with the most emotional part of the story. If you’re starting your book with a story about how you got chased by the police, don’t begin with what you had for breakfast that day. Start with the chase. A good hook might also be a question or a claim—anything that will elicit an emotional response from a reader.
Think about it this way: a good opening sentence is the thing you don’t think you can say, but you still want to say. Like, “This book will change your life.” Or, “I’ve come up with the most brilliant way anyone’s ever found for handling this problem.” Your opening sentence isn’t the time for modesty (as long as you can back it up!).
You want to publish a book for a reason, Now’s your chance to show a reader why they should want to read it. That doesn’t mean you have to be cocky. You just have to be honest and engaging. When you’re trying to come up with a great opening line, ask yourself these 3 things:
What will the audience care about, be interested in, or be surprised by?What is the most interesting story or inflammatory statement in your book? What do you have to say that breaks the rules?
The best opening lines are gut punches. They summarize the book, at least in an oblique way. But they’re not dry facts. They’re genuine, behind-the-scenes glimpses into a human life. They establish who you are and what you’re about, right from the beginning.
- Human beings respond to genuine connection.
- That means being vulnerable.
- You have to break down any barriers that you might usually keep around you.
- That’s one of the hardest things to do as an Author, but it makes for a great book.
- Reading about perfection is boring, especially because we all know there’s no such thing.
In the next section, I’ll go through examples of great first sentences and explain why they work. Every one of these strategies helps create an instant, authentic connection with readers. You just have to pick the one that makes the most sense for your book. View complete answer

Why discipline is the key to success
Self-discipline is a key to success The single most important attribute to becoming successful is self-discipline. It helps you stay focused on reaching your goals, gives you the gumption to stick with difficult tasks, and allows you to overcome obstacles and discomfort as you push yourself to new heights.
What exactly is self-discipline? It’s the ability to control your impulses, emotions, reactions and behaviors; it allows you to forego short-term gratification in favor of long-term satisfaction and gain. It’s saying “no” when you really want to say “yes.” It isn’t about leading a restrictive and boring life void of enjoyment.
In fact, it’s next to impossible to be self-disciplined in all areas of your life. Rather than attempting to be disciplined in all you do, use it to focus on what’s most important. Want to be more disciplined? Try some of these tips:
You can’t achieve your goals without discipline, so supplement your goal list with a self-discipline list; it will keep you focused on the behaviors and tasks needed to achieve what you want. For example, one of my goals is to be more visible to our customers. My discipline list includes things like “call three customers per week” and “send five thank you cards per month.” Do the things on this list without fail. Use a daily “to do” list to keep track of what you need to get done to achieve your goals. Try using online tools to make daily checklists to organize and prioritize. It feels good to check the little boxes when you’ve completed a task; it may even motivate you to finish one more thing on your list at the end of the day just to feel the satisfaction of checking another box. Make sure your “to do” list coincides with your discipline list so you stay on track. Figure out what your barriers to success are. For example, I’m easily distracted by emails, meetings and people walking into my office; to reach my goal of more customer contact, I close my office door as soon as I get to work and make calls, send thank you notes and answer emails sent from customers. I then check it off my “to do” list and move on with my day. Trying to lose weight? Get the junk food out of your house. Want to be more productive at work? Close your email application and only check your emails twice per day. Want to get in shape? Get up early and work out so you don’t lose motivation when you are tired at the end of the day. Minimize or remove all temptations and distractions to reach your most important goals. Share your goals with others. It’s easier to stick with something when you’ve made a public commitment; the thought of failing in front of others can be motivated to stick with it. These people can help hold you accountable, too. I know the saying goes, “Don’t do it for others; do it for yourself,” but I have found I am much more disciplined when I consider how my actions, behaviors, emotions and impulses affect others. Contrary to popular belief, it’s OK to use external sources to drive motivation. In fact, sometimes external motivators are more powerful than internal ones. Find purpose beyond yourself to create a higher chance of success. You create discipline by creating habits. Once something becomes a habit, you no longer need willpower to force yourself to do it. For example, one of my goals was to do more yoga. I made a commitment to do it 30 minutes a day for 30 days. I saw such benefits that I stuck with it. Now I get up an hour earlier in the morning to start my day off with an hour of yoga without having to set an alarm. Stop making excuses. Don’t wait for tomorrow; do it now. Fall off the wagon? Start over immediately. Quit telling yourself something is too hard or that you can’t change. Don’t blame other people for your circumstances. Excuse-making is the killer of self-discipline. Achieve more by adopting an “I can do this” mindset.
You are the master of your destiny, the creator of your life. If you want your destiny to look and feel a certain way, then you must develop the discipline to get there. While it seems counterintuitive, you will find yourself happier and healthier the more self-disciplined you become. View complete answer
How does discipline help us to get success?
The self-disciplined person takes control of his own life – Having self-discipline helps us to overcome laziness and procrastination and prevents us from taking things for granted. It directs us to choose what we want now and what we want for the future.
Maxwell Maltz, author of a self-help book called “Psycho-Cybernetics: A New Way to Get More Living out of Life”, said, “The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable prerequisite for success”. Self-discipline makes you re-evaluate what you need to do now in order to achieve success in the future.
As the saying goes, what you sow now is what you will reap in the future. View complete answer
What are the 4 purposes of education
Why go to school? Student, parent and teacher beliefs about the purposes of schooling This qualitative study explored the beliefs of students, parents and teachers on the purposes of schooling in order to provide a context for understanding beliefs and attitudes to school learning and achievement.
Focus groups were conducted with Year 9 and 10 students (aged 13–15 years) and parents and teachers in three secondary schools in different socio-economic areas in an urban district. Four categories were identified in relation to beliefs about the purposes of schooling: (1) to learn and gain self-knowledge; (2) to develop life and social skills; (3) to optimize life chances and quality of life; (4) to enable future employment and economic wellbeing.
Comparisons revealed that students, parents and teachers all believed in the learning purpose of schooling, but did not all endorse an economic purpose. Students had the broadest views on school purposes. The greatest alignment between views was found for students and parents.
The greatest difference between groups was found for students and teachers from high socio-economic area schools. Findings were considered in relation to national curriculum aims and external pressures from globalization. Overall, findings are conducive to a lifelong learning approach, pointing to belief in the intrinsic value of school learning independent of any economic function it may serve.

Can we live without education?
A Life Without Education Education News | May-29-2021 Education is the heart and soul of every child. The child is incomplete without education in his life education. Education is a process by which we learn, acquire knowledge, skills, and habits. It can take formally and informally with any experience that has value to it to make it an educational purpose.
There are different stages of education from preschool to university. A child has to move through tough times in his life but eventually, he/she will achieve his/her target one day. A global initiative by United Nations was taken in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promoted quality education for all.
But, have you imagined your life ever without education? The phrase might sound cool but the reality behind this coolness of not studying is very harsh. No human being can and will survive without education. Education is like food which when not taken on time can harm your body and mind.
- Life out of education is very miserable some of the consequences can be you won’t be able to earn (primary source) and hence without any money you can’t survive plus not even your family can.
- Secondly, if you aren’t educated you won’t be able to educate your children as well.
- Third, the world without education will be a barren land of civilization that is just up from the underground.
The monuments, trees, beautiful plants, and different landscapes will be missing because for building them you again need to have an education of inches, quantity to be used, etc. There will be illogical beliefs of superstitions that we can develop our knowledge by black magic and be educated.
- There won’t be any humanity left among the people because they will not be knowing what to speak and when to speak.
- The level of technology as compared to the current arena will be zero.
- Instead of repairing laptops, people will be playing, breaking, and fighting with parts.
- Without education, the tremendous growth of technology that we see today will be a mirage at that time.
To conclude, I thank the makes of the constitution who added article 21 A as Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 so that we should not see a world with uneducated minds. Not learn or be educate for the people around you, learn and exquisite for yourself to be you. View complete answer

Importance of Education in Life Speech
Learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, habits, and personal development, is facilitated by education. Education began as a means of passing along cultural knowledge from one generation to the next. Today’s educational objectives increasingly include new concepts such as learner liberation, critical thinking about offered material, modern-day skills, empathy, and complicated vocational skills. Formal education takes place at educational and training facilities, is usually supervised by a teacher, and is normally structured by curricular goals and objectives. Formal education is compulsory in most regions until a specific age, and is usually separated into educational stages such as kindergarten, primary school, and secondary school. Nonformal learning can be used in conjunction with or instead of formal education. It is frequently held in community-based, workplace-based, or civil society-based settings, and is arranged according to educational arrangements, but in a more flexible manner. Finally, informal settings occur in everyday life, in the family, and any event that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or behaves, whether unintended or purposeful, may be deemed educational.
In practise, there is a continuum between highly structured and very informalized learning, and informal learning can take place in any of the three settings. Homeschooling, for example, might be defined as either nonformal or informal, depending on the structure. Teaching, training, storytelling, conversation, and guided study are all examples of educational methods that can be used in any situation. The term pedagogy refers to the teaching methodology.
Importance of Education Essay 200 Words
Education policies and implementation were constitutionally defined by each of India’s constituent states until 1976. Education became a ‘concurrent subject’ after the 42nd amendment to the constitution was ratified in 1976. Since then, the federal and state governments have shared official responsibilities for education funding and administration. In 2005-6, the government managed 83.13 percent of elementary schools (Grades 1-8) and 16.86 percent of schools were under private management. According to the 2011 Census, approximately 73 percent of the population was literate, with males accounting for 81 percent and females accounting for 65 percent. Literacy was 77.7% in 2017–18, with 84.7 percent for males and 70.3 percent for females, according to the National Statistical Commission. The World Bank has invested nearly $2 billion in India’s education since 2000. There are more than 900 universities and 40,000 colleges in India. A large percentage of seats in India’s higher education system are reserved for historically disadvantaged Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes under affirmative action rules. Reservations for these disadvantaged groups are allowed in universities, colleges, and similar institutions affiliated with the federal government up to 50%, but this varies by state. In 2014, Maharashtra had the largest rate of reservations in India, at 73 percent.
A wide range of philosophies, theories, and empirical research agendas underpin education. There are movements for educational reforms, such as enhancing the quality and efficiency of education to make it more relevant to students’ lives and efficient problem solving in today’s or tomorrow’s society, or for evidence-based education techniques. Some states and the United Nations have acknowledged the right to education. Global activities are aimed at accomplishing Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls for universal access to high-quality education. The goal of altering public education is known as education reform. Debates over whether content or experiences result in an educated individual or an educated community have affected the meaning and practises of education. Reform intentions in the past have not always reflected present societal requirements. The assumption that large-scale, systematic changes in educational standards will result in social benefits in citizens’ health, prosperity, and well-being is a recurring theme of reform.
Although educational reform has occurred on a local level throughout history, the current concept of education reform is linked to the widespread adoption of compulsory education. The necessity of ensuring that all children and adults have access to free, high-quality, effective education has grown as a result of economic expansion and the spread of democracy. Modern education changes are becoming increasingly motivated by a growing understanding of what works in education and how to improve teaching and learning in schools. In other circumstances, however, the reformers’ goals of high-quality education have been misinterpreted as high-intensity education, with a narrow focus on teaching isolated, test-friendly subskills fast, regardless of long-term consequences, developmental appropriateness, or broader educational goals.

Never Stop Learning
Essay On Education – 1000 Words Essay
Education, for the most part, is simply a set of skills and ideas that we are meant to take in, absorb, and implement into our lives. They range from knowledge about how to balance a checkbook to understanding Hegelian philosophy. Without learning these skills and ideas, it’s impossible for us to grow as people. We need education in order for us to be the best version of ourselves – not only educated but thoughtful beings who have learned how life works by living it themselves. There’s no way around it; education is one of the most important things in life and touches just about every aspect of our being – emotionally, intellectually, and otherwise. Without it, we are incapable of growing and thriving as human beings; with it, we stand a chance.
What is the purpose of school? A school is a place where you go every day from 5th grade until the year after high school graduation. Then you go to college. The purpose of school is so that we can learn how to become productive members of society and better people so that we can become happier in life. Not just for us but also for our countries and communities. We need a good education because it teaches us the skills that will help us do great things in life and not waste our time on bad things such as drugs, alcohol, etc.
Education is necessary for us to grow in every aspect of our lives, but that doesn’t mean that every subject a school teaches is worth learning. The difference between high school and college isn’t the subjects we learn – both schools teach us things like history, math, English, and science – but how we learn them. In high school, teachers simply throw information at us to memorize for tests; as if the only thing that matters in life is getting good grades with little effort and regurgitating knowledge on command.
What’s the purpose of high school? In high school, we learn about many things like history and sciences, which help us become better people because we will be able to know many different events that happened in history. Also, we are able to understand how far people have come in things like science, mathematics, and English. We also learn good morals such as not lying to other people or doing certain actions that can hurt other people or damage their lives. Lastly, high school is a gateway to college or jobs.
Once we enter college, though, things are different. College students are no longer forced to memorize facts, but rather are given the opportunity to learn subjects intellectually; it’s not about us regurgitating what we know but rather actually learning and analyzing. Northwestern University defines college as “the level of education where students actively learn, think, talk, write, challenge ideas, work with others and introduce new knowledge.” Forcing us to memorize what we learned in high school is the antithesis of learning; teaching is essential for us to develop our minds. College teaches us skills in order to become a better person, which is vital for our self-development, and without them, we are incomplete.
One of the most important things colleges teaches is how to think critically and analytically. This is a skill that has no true substitute – one that allows us to step back from the world we live in and analyze it logically so we can make decisions as adults rather than simply go through life without them. Without this skill, we’re simply people who know how to do things but aren’t truly able to make independent decisions because they don’t know the full issues involved behind the decisions they’ve made. Critical thinking skills allow us to be able to differentiate between different sources of information and understand that no single source can be considered completely unbiased. Dr. Lawrence Kohlberg, a cognitive psychologist, says “there are many kinds of intelligence: emotional intelligence, street smarts, practical intelligence… We need to understand that any single definition [of intelligence] is too narrow.” Dr. Howard Gardner also supports this claim with his multiple intelligences theory; he asserts (and has proven) that there are many kinds of intelligence and there is no singular way for people to be intelligent. Instead, there are many different ways for a person to learn and be intelligent. Gardner’s theory is one of the most important theories in the field of psychology because it reframes intelligence as more than just knowledge or skill and allows us to think about intelligence in a way that we haven’t before.
Education is very important. However, what is the true meaning of education? Education is something we learn in our childhood. It is not just a school or college education but also something that touches every part of our life.
What are some of the great benefits of education? Well, first of all, it teaches us important skills like math and science. These are important for us to learn because they help us do everyday things, like balancing checkbooks and going to work. They also teach us how to become good citizens through knowledge about history and politics. College teaches us how to make good decisions by educating us in economics. These are all skills that we would like to learn.
What is the importance of education? Well, I mean…it’s important for us to have a good education to be able to do many things and be able to do harder things like understanding something instead of just knowing it or something that is complicated and difficult. It’s important for us to learn and develop our knowledge about something that will help us think about it differently, something that will help us understand it better, know many things about it, and have the ability to remember what we learned so we can use what we learned in our daily life. Education helps people become more intelligent and improve their value system. Education helps us become more knowledgeable and improve our minds. Education helps us understand and improve our lives. Education is important because it helps us learn more about ourselves, our community, our society, and the world around us.
Educating ourselves is the best thing we can do to help change the world around us. We need to help educate children because when they grow up and become adults they are better people. They will be able to understand the needs of their community and become educated so that they are not ignorant and can change the world in ways that benefit all of society. We need a good education because it helps us understand our goals and dreams as well as our mistakes in life because we know what we should be doing so that’s why it’s important for us to study hard. If we don’t have a good education, than we will have a lot of problems with growing up, understanding ourselves, becoming successful on our own, etc. Also, we need to be educated so that we can learn the difference between good and bad and know what to do in life. Education helps us understand what we should be doing because it teaches us important things in our life that we will be able to tell about later when we want to talk about our mistakes. Also, it helps us stop wasting our time on bad things that can damage our lives and cause us pain and suffering.
Education is important for everyone, it’s the key to a better life, and learning is fun. If we have a good education in our life that’s great for us. We will know what to do in life and be prepared for what we are going to encounter. We will also be able to enjoy our lives more than if we didn’t get any education our whole life. Education is the key to success in life, we should do everything possible to get an education because it’s very important for us and it’s very helpful.

Harvard journal accused of censoring article alleging genocide in Gaza
Harvard Law Review declined an essay by Palestinian doctoral candidate Rabea Eghbariah after it had been initially approved
A prestigious journal published by Harvard Law School has been accused of censorship after it refused to publish an academic article accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, allegedly because editors feared a backlash.
The Harvard Law Review, which is run by the school’s student body, declined the 2,000-word essay – titled The Ongoing Nakba: Towards a Legal Framework for Palestine – by a Palestinian doctoral candidate, Rabea Eghbariah, after it had been edited, fact-checked and initially approved.
The article, commissioned after Hamas’s 7 October attack on Israel, followed by an Israeli assault on Gaza, would have been the first by a Palestinian scholar ever published by the review. The Intercept originally broke the story.
It argued that events in Gaza – where more than 14,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its military offensive – met the terms of genocide as defined by the United Nations convention. The article also called for a legally recognised crime of “Nakba” (catastrophe), the Arab word used to describe the forced removal of Palestinians from their homes at the time of Israel’s founding in 1948.
But plans to publish it as a blogpost were abandoned after a crisis meeting of more than 100 editors. The rejection was reportedly driven by fears that publication might harm editors’ career prospects by provoking a backlash that could include having their personal details disclosed in an attempt at public shaming, a process known as “doxxing.”
Working on the review is a well-trodden path for law school students, who later advance to high-flying careers in politics, elite law firms, and clerkships at the US supreme court. Barack Obama served as the review’s president during his time as a Harvard law student.
The decision was criticised in a statement issued by 25 editors, who said such a rejection was unprecedented and motivated by fear.
“At a time when the Law Review was facing a public intimidation and harassment campaign, the journal’s leadership intervened to stop publication,” they wrote, according to the Intercept. “The body of editors – none of whom are Palestinian – voted to sustain that decision. We are unaware of any other solicited piece that has been revoked by the Law Review in this way.”
The review’s editor, Apsara Iyer, told Eghbariah, in an email that the decision “was not based on your identity or viewpoint”.
However, a separate email written by an online editor, Tascha Shahriari-Parsa, and reported by the Nation suggested otherwise.
“The discussion did not involve any substantive or technical aspects of your piece,” Shahriari-Parsa told Eghbariah. “Rather, [it] revolved around concerns about editors who might oppose or be offended by the piece, as well as concerns that the piece might provoke a reaction from members of the public who might in turn harass, dox or otherwise attempt to intimidate our editors, staff and HLR leadership.”
In response, Eghabriah, a human rights attorney, complained to editors that the decision amounted to “discrimination” and “outright censorship”.
The article was eventually published by the Nation under the headline The Harvard Law Review Refused to Run This Piece About Genocide in Gaza.
after newsletter promotion
In it, Eghbariah cites several scholars who argue that Israeli actions meet legal criteria for genocide, before adding: “And yet, leading law schools and legal scholars in the United States still fashion their silence as impartiality and their denial as nuance.
“Palestine is where genocide can be performed as a fight of ‘ the civilised world ’ against the ‘enemies of civilization’ itself. When contrasted with Jewish-Israeli life – the ultimate victims of European genocidal ideologies – Palestinians stand no chance at humanisation .”
Noting that genocide was enshrined into the UN charter and international law due to the crimes of the Holocaust, he envisions a similar legally defined outcome for Palestinian experiences. “We must imagine that one day there will be a recognised crime of committing a Nakba, and a disapprobation of Zionism as an ideology based on racial elimination ,” he concludes.
The controversy over the article follows a series of rows that have engulfed Harvard and other universities in the wake of Hamas’s assault, which led to the killing of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of around 240 others.
Larry Summers, a former Harvard president and US treasury secretary, denounced the university for failing to condemn an open letter left by a pro-Palestinian student group in the campus’s main courtyard in the immediate aftermath of the atrocities that put the blame on Israel.
“In nearly 50 years of @Harvard affiliation, I have never been as disillusioned and alienated as I am today,” he tweeted. He said the letter and university officials’ failure to condemn it “allowed Harvard to appear at best neutral towards acts of terror against the Jewish state of Israel”.
His criticism prompted the current Harvard president, Claudine Gay, to publicly condemn Hamas’s “barbaric atrocities”. But she rejected calls to name and punish students who signed the open letter, saying the university “embraces a commitment to free expression”.
